Fabian
M. Mueller - piano
„Birrä Birrä Weggä Chääs uu Broot, jo das brucht mer i dää Not“ was the first song Fabian wanted to play and to sing. And it wasn’t good enough to just pretend to play the violin. So that’s why his first instrument was a hired violin. His teacher was very patient, although sometimes she got fed up with the „Birrä Birrä Weggä...“ but Fabian was happy to play just this one melody and nothing else.
His mother cheered him up by teaching him to play the piano. But she failed miserably because Fabian didn’t practise what she gave him. Chopin, Mozart and Beethoven just weren’t his thing. He preferred to play heavy metal on his cheap yamaha keyboard. Once he turned 11, he finally decided to take piano lessons. This time not with his mother, but with Hans Hauser.
After leaving secondary school, Fabian went on to teachers’ college in Rorschach. He took piano lessons with Josef Roshardt, who was able to improve Fabian’s technique and his sensibility towards classical music. At this time, Fabian was also into Hip Hop, Rap and was producing beats and with his HipHop-crew “Sophaz“, with whom he recorded his first cd “Projekt Rübezahl“.
By chance, Fabian happened to go into a rehearsal-room where Jan Geiger was practising with Josquin Rosset. For the first time, Fabian saw a piano player, who was able to play rhythmic and melodic Grooves on just a Fender Rhodes. Fabian was so impressed that he listened to all his parents’ Keith Jarrett records and imitated them. Josef Roshardt noticed Fabian’s sudden interest in jazz music and increased his number of piano lessons. The two of them worked together and analysed jazz-harmonies. For Josef Roshardt the world of jazz was also a new discovery.
Fabian played in his first trio and later joined the “Classic Mood Quintett“, where he met Stefan Widmer (as) and Niklaus Hürni (tp).
Fabian just wanted to practise the piano, but his teachers-training required his full attention and so there was only little time left for the piano.
In 2005 Fabian finally qualified as a primary teacher and was then able to turn his full attention to his passion – music!
As a freelance he is involved in different formations. Aside from “Jalazz”, he leads his own trio, where he plays his compositions with the musicians Fabian Bürgi (dr)
and Kaspar von Grünigen (b)from Bern. They realesed their debut album
"moment" with the jazz label Altrisuoni.
“Box”, a jazz/ drum’n bass-formation with Christian Gschwend (dr), Kaspar von Grünigen (b) and Niklas Hürni (tp), is also stationed in Bern.
The first Box album "Bruch" was released by the jazz label altrisuoni.
Fabian and Stefan recorded a duo-cd together „playing these old tunes“ where jazzstandards are interpreted.
As a soloist, Fabian has recorded two cd’s “Behind” and “Trilogie” which are free improvisations. And to top all that
fabian has a new solo project in collaboration with the film maker Roland von Tessin. |
