Dusan Prusák - bass

Dusan Prusák was born in former Czechoslovakia. After finishing his education as a chemical-laboratory-assistant he studied music at the Jazzschool in St. Gallen. He lived in Vienna for a short period of time where he worked together with the musicians Oliver Kent, Carter Jefferson and Cathleen Dahl. There Dusan got his liking for improvised double bass-duos. During this time he also played together with the bass player Elmar Guantez-Heinz. This ensemble was recorded on an LP named „Le Massacre de Don Quijote“. Today, Dusan regularly plays music with his colleague Ficht Tanner.

Dusan used to be a member of Art Landes “Wundertüte”, with Spiro/ Giacopuzzi. They recorded the LP „Frontal“. The music he made with Jean-Francois Bovard and Daniel Bourquin is captured on „Society for Future Research“. Dusan also played in the “Esther Bächlin-Quintet” and many other bands. His band „Scientist’s Breakfast“ produced four cd’s.

When he takes time off from playing music, Dusan travels the world looking for new inspirations. He stayed in Latin-America for a whole year and deepened his knowledge of Afro-Cuban music in Habana. In 2001 he undertook a long journey through the south-east of Asia. It was in the same year that Dusan got a financial contribution for his works for his jazz-opera „The Lonely Machine“.

Dusan is the youngest and at the same time the eldest member of “Jalazz”. He didn’t join the band until December 2005, but being born in 1961, he is definitely the eldest of the Jalazz-quartet. His wide experience is a great complement to the zest of the younger and wilder musicians in the band
